If your dreams don’t scare you, they aren’t big enough

Two years ago I got this tattoo on my left arm written “do it scared”. So many people ask about it and the story behind it. Sometimes words just fall out of my mouth, and other times I just tell them its a long story. I would be lying if I didn’t say it can be be a scary question for me to answer sometimes, which is strange I know. It’s my tattoo, LOL. These are my dreams and I should be proud to share them! Sometimes I dread this question because I feel like they will judge me for why I really got it… I shouldn’t care what they think, but that is not an easy thing to do!

In reality and long story short, we all need to be reminded to keep chasing after our dreams, especially when they are scary. One of my favorite quotes, which I loved long before this tattoo:

If your dreams don’t scare you,

they aren’t big enough.

So good, huh? I always feel so inspired when I read this quote!

The Full Story

Two years ago, I went to a leadership conference, Diamond Bound. It’s put on by a leader in Young Living and it. is. Incredible. Life changing I would even say. During this event I questioned myself and if I had it in me to reach the goals I wanted.

Going back another year, I watched a mom through instagram encouraging others and herself to ‘do it scared‘. She used these words often to encourage her kiddos, but also shared online how it is very applicable to adults too. As you can see, they impacted me.

Back to the conference I was talking about… During my moment of doubt and self pity, The Lord spoke right to me and gently encouraged me to do it, even if it’s scary. Trust Him and do it scared.

I got goose bumps. I was terrified and excited all at the same time. The next day I decided I wanted those words tattooed on my arm to remind me EVERY day to not give up.

When I got home and told Ian about my weekend and my new idea, he wanted to do it with me and also has his own ‘do it scared’ tattoo on the back of his left arm! He. is. the. sweetest human.

I’ll admit. It’s hard to have my idea of a career and goals typically looked at as a less then.

In the end, does it matter what people do to make a living (legally obv.)? Does it matter what they do as their passion to fill their cup? Whether you’re a business owner, lawyer, doctor, teacher, pizza delivery guy or top of an MLM company, you’re gonna have critics.

What scares you?

So to all of you out there chasing big dreams, even the ones you’re afraid to admit to other people, do it. Especially if you’re scared. I encourage you to read “The Obstacle Is The Way”. It is ALL about dreaming big, and doing it scared.

We all need to be reminded our dreams and goals matter. Simply because they are important to you. If your dreams don’t scare you, they aren’t big enough.
